Ok, that was fun...we ought to hire her as our publicist, eh? Forgive us; but gift giving is about having some fun, eh? Here are some a more down to earth comments (from the same person)

Gift List 2000 changed the way I do all of my holiday shopping. First, you
could shop over the Internet. Now, you can shop over the Internet with an
accurate and invaluable list of what all of your friends, relatives and
co-workers would like to receive, for Christmas, Hanukkah, birthdays,
weddings, you name it. The guesswork in buying gifts is gone, as is the
embarrassment and disappointment of discovering on Christmas morning that
both you and your sister have bought Mom a toaster over, and it's not
even the one she wants!
Gift List allows families, friends, co-workers, or any group to create their own gift web site. The site is cleverly constructed to allow participants to list the gifts they'd like to receive, and even to include relevant links to on-line vendors where the items can be purchased. But, because of the way in which the list is set up, the participants will have no way of knowing whether anyone has purchased the items they've listed. That information is known only to the other users of the site. For example, Uncle Joe puts on his list that he would like a marvelous whirlpool foot massager. He can leave the item like this, or he can provide further information, including the brand, color, approximate price, and where it can be purchased. Nephew Stephen pulls up the family Gift List and decides he'll buy that foot massager for his Uncle Joe. In a column that is invisible to Uncle Joe, Nephew Stephen checks off a box that says "Got it," thereby telling everyone else in the family that this item has been taken. Uncle Joe knows nothing of this, but only hopes that his aching feet will feel better on Christmas morning. This secrecy feature is accomplished with passwords. Gift List participants have their own individual passwords that allow them to view and add to the contents of their own list, but without seeing whether anyone has bought something from that list. The participants' passwords also will allow them to view the contents of everyone else's lists, including information about who has already bought what presents. My family used Gift List last year for Christmas. About 20 people participated, from immediate to extended family members and some friends, and the program was easily used by all of us, even those of us who were a little intimidated by using an unfamiliar computer program. We have now used the list for birthdays, graduations and a couple of baptisms. It's simple, its' smart, but most of all, it lets everyone get back to celebrating more stress-free holidays while enjoying the gift of giving.
